Poll Question
The dollar coin looks neat in my proof and uncirculated set, but I never use them and would much prefer to have dollar bills. It's easier to carry around 7 dollar bills than 7 coins in my pocket which could get lost when I take out my keys. What's your thought?

Poll Choices
Stop minting the dollar coins all together
Continue minting the dollar bills and coins as we are now
Stop printing dollar bills and force people to use dollar coins
Only mint the dollar coins for collector sets
Keep minting all the dollar coins, but in smaller quantity

The same people who complain about the government wasting money are the same people who want to keep the dollar bill. It's crazy. Stop printing the one dollar bill and the government will save billions.

We have two options here: dollar coins, or Polymer notes. I want us to have a Two Dollar bi-metallic coin as well.

Why carry around seven dollar coins when you can carry around three $2 bills and one dollar coin (or two half dollars)?

You wouldn't carry around 7 dollar coins any more than you'd carry around 7 quarters. When you got dollar coins in change you'd drop them in your change jar at home and turn them into the bank periodically, the way you do with the rest of your coins.

If I started throwing dollars into my coin jar it would add up a lot quicker!

BTW, I vote for killing the dollar bill and keeping the coin. Can't vote in the poll though. When I click on "Vote Now" I get an error message that says I can't see the results until I vote.

I voted force people to use the dollar coin. The quarter is in widespread use and its not much bigger, there is no reason the dollar coin should not be as well.

I'd prefer large-size dollar coins and the same size bi-metal 2 dollar coins.

Killing the greenback is the most responsible choice with today's developments, but despite that some people whine about taking their medicine.

I'd use $2 coins too.

I Metal Detect for a Hobby since 1979. Also do away with the Cent to get me a Better Average, I would rather find a Dollar Coin versus a Quarter

I can't vote, I am not a U.S. citizen.

It is gratifying nonetheless, to see the poll as it currently stands.

There a number of countries around the World that have compulsorily withdrawn low denomination notes, and replaced them with coins. The tactic has proven to work, with little complaint from the Public that has the change foisted on them by their Government.

Normally, I intensely dislike any government that moves in a way that appears to be an action steeped in arrogance. However, there are exceptions, and this is one of them. In this case, the overall cost to the Public is less, and from my own experience, (which I think is the majority), is more convenient.

One thing I have found in American homes, is the cookie jar or whatever, that is used to accumulate coins. The coins are eventually to be returned to the bank in a large consignment. That has to be inefficient. You don't often see that situation in Australia.

Coins are much cheaper to produce in the long run than low denomination notes.
A dollar coin can last for 20 years or more, the paper dollar note did not last for more than a few weeks.

These days we have polymer notes, but that is another story. We DO NOT however, have dollar notes.

I'm not a fan of dollar coins. I am a fan of dollar bills. However, I'm a bigger fan of not wasting our tax money. So I voted get rid of the bill and force the coin. it wouldn't be that hard to adapt to.
