Hi all, I have a 1 pfennig coin labelled "Deutsches Reich" (Germany, I believe) from 1875. It appears to be uncirculated, AU at worst. There are two small "C's" on the reverse, one at about 5:30 and the other about 6:30... I assume they compose the mintmark.
Just wondering about mintage, value, and any other useful information. Any help appreciated!
Krause says the German 1875C 1 pfennig has a mintage of 22.654 million. The condition of that one looks very nice, I'd call at least EF, though I'm uncomfortable with the colour and the streakiness on the reverse - it looks too much like an old cleaning job - unless that's just the lighting you're using.
CV in EF is $15. "C" mintmark is the Frankfurt mint, only open until 1879.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
In person, this coin looks really nice and sharp. The reverse actually has beautiful mottled toning (that didn't show up properly in the photo) from being glued to a piece of cardboard for decades. I pulled it off the cardboard after purchase, and because of the eye appeal (to me) it is one of my favorites... I'm sure that's why I think it is AU. Looks like wear on the feathers and other high points though. so I wouldn't be surprised if it grades EF.
Also not shown in the obverse photo is doubling of almost every letter and number, definitely noticeable under magnification. I think I might send it in for grading at some point, just for fun.
taking this early "Reichspfennig" the condition seems to be at least EF. The price in the coin journal is taxed 18 EURO.(January 2007) So it is in the range what was calculated by SAP.
