Hi...I was wondering if anyone has come across a 20 cent coin with 4 half claws under the ' 2'. I have come across a 2005 20 cent with this feature. Is it an isolated error or what? am trying to get a better close -up pic...will post it as soon as I can Larena Edited by larena 12/17/2011 9:24 pm

Never seen anything like it, the only example I know of missing claws is the 1981 3.5 claw variety, excuse me whilst I go and noodle some 20c pieces :)

I'm hoping someone can help me with this one please? I did list it on ebay but have taken it off (I am scared to sell it now) . Have decided I want more info on this first.

I have at least one 20c where there are no visible claws at all under the 2. My opinion is die fill, either by grease or oil, not really worth any more than 20c, but I kept it anyway. I had the little blighter in my hand a couple days ago, but now I can't remember where I put it, so until it turns up, I can't even tell you the year.

i found one very similar last night, scans are not showing this yet, but it appears very much like the claws are on top of the platypus's head? I will be playing more with the scanner later today trying to get it to show up, but I dont like my chances its out of black ink and wont let me into the settings until its refilled. most likely turn out to be PMD but ya never know

ive tried to point out where the marks are, unfortunately I cannot get it any clearer, and my loupe doesn't show it well enough to see if its raised or not

the arrow is hiding the 2 smaller marks I think, but the 2 larger ones can just be seen, and the more I look, the more it looks like the marks/claws are raised, but for the life of me I cannot work out how it could of happened as such

I checked my pictures and I have 3 scans of my coin, it's 2008, but the images are huge. I'll see if I can re-size and then attach them.

thats better than the one I found, you can see the hand and half the finger where they should be, but the other bit I dont know yet... might need a microscope to suss it out proper

If I see any reasonable condition 1981 20¢ I check claws to see which mint it is. Left claws often do seem to be deficient but I haven't yet seen a "no claw". Maybe I should be checking other years too. But, how many things can you check for? No wonder noodling seems to get more and more time consuming.
I go with Nancy on die fill theory; sounds good to me.

well, I just found another of these (4 half claws 2005 20 cents) in much better condition than the first.
