I owned this coin a couple of years ago and when I let her go to help pay for a new aquisition, I almost immediatley regretted my decision. Thought I'd never see her again. Well, I was looking through the Heritage auctions from the FUN show, and there she was! Welcome home! BTW, when I first owned her she was in an old ngc fatty, and is now properly graded. Whatcha' guys think? Image: 80-s.jpg66.81 KB Image: 80-srev.jpg68.6 KB Edited by hadleydog 01/07/2007 01:11 am

A frosty toner. What a wonderful thing. I'm thinking 65, possibly PL but I can't tell from the photos.

I agree with 65, however I do believe she should receive PL. She is a beauty, I cannot see very many marks on those nice frosty devices. Maybe a shot at 66?

You guys are tough, but it's hard to tell from the Heritage picture that I provided. Of course, the same poor Heritage images have saved me a boatload in the past, so I ain't complaining. Let's see if I can find an image of her that I took...........

I based my opinion more on what looks like pretty chattery fields than on the devices, which are excellent. Particularly important to me were the areas above the date and above the eagle, and between the eagle's left wing and the wreath. Get me a better pic, I might go 66.

SuperDave, I would not have gone above 65 from the images I provided either. The new pic is not much better, I'm afraid.

Old NGC fatty. I always felt the coin deserved a higher technical grade, yet as a dmpl collector I felt the mirrors were not up to todays standards. New holder and grade, I think they got it right this time. Image: 1880sms67pl.jpg85.13 KB Image: 1880-S66DPL2.jpg46.14 KB

Oooooooooh, shiny! I have to assume that much of what I see are luster breaks rather than chatter. The devices certainly support MS67.
