Whats a 5c noodle bag? I'm now very curious. I get my nickels in boxes that weighs a ton! (22 lbs or so). I personally love collection nickels. There are so many varieties. Is it the same way for Aussie 5c pieces? Whats the number of posts for trading/ what is the general protocol for sending coins?

Sorry no silver in those. You want 1964 and below. The 1976 quarter should be a bicentenial right? Those arent common so definitely hold on to that.

It was 6 dimes, 1901, 1904, 1906, 1911, 1912 and a 1913.
I love international trades!
Next I want a fist full of dollar bills.

What should I look for in Australian coins?

Depends on what you like...
Many pre-decimal are still not too hard to come by;
•Up to 1946 silver coins were sterling (92.5%) and 50% after.
•Most pennies are not expensive.
•1927 (Parliament House) florin is a lovely coin.

Decimals from 1966 include lots of interesting commemoratives;
•1991 ram'shead (25th anniversary of decimal) and 1988 (bi-centenary of First Fleet) are good ones to start with.
•Lots of varieties, mintmarks etc.
•1966 round 50¢ (80% silver) is a nice coin and not hard to find.

Then there are NCLT;
•$200 gold coins featuring Australian fauna are nice (but not cheap)
•Some very nice pure silver coins available in many designs
•2000 Olympic sport $5.00 coins are affordable -28 in set and special album available too.

This is just scratching the surface.

SUGGESTIONS;
•Check out Australian section here
•check out ebay Australia http://coins.shop.ebay.com.au/
•Look for a McDonalds Australian Coins and Banknotes catalogue. A newish, second hand one will cost about $10.
•Google is your friend.
•You've already asked so wait to see other responses come rolling in here (and possible disagreements with my off-the cuff suggestions).

Send me a message if you might be interested in a swap to get you started (no contact details in your profile). Have a look for me in the "What Our Members Collect" section first.

cheers,
Jeff

Just a friendly warning, be careful trying to send messages before you have enough points. Cheers

PS But like Jeff just said, have a look around as we have quite a few different types of coins and collectors. I mainly collect low mintage decimal coins as it's the cheapest and easiest way as you get it from your change.

what jeff said.
im new to this as well, I'm buying a few pre decimal coins when I can get them cheap, mainly looking for silver coins to spend a little more cash on, and have also brought 1 nclt so far. my aim is to start getting some silver nclt and maybe hopefully pick up some smaller gold coins.
i also mainly try to buy low mintage coins of whatever.

Thank you very much Jeff. When I get enough posts, I will definitely send you a message.

I came across an article in a magazine about wartime coins struck in the US mints, and I believe that certain Australian coins were among those. I really liked the 1943 Florin coins. Does anyone know about Australian coins minted in the US?

Gold...I would love some Perth Gold Certificates...but thats neither here nor there. But the Perth Mint makes some of the most beautiful modern coins that I know.

Aussie .925 silver coins minted in the US during WWII are:

1942 Threepence, both D and S Mints
1943 Threepence, both D and S Mints
1944 Threepence, S Mint

1942 Sixpence, both D and S Mints
1943 Sixpence, both D and S Mints
1944 Sixpence, S Mint

1 Shilling, 1942, 1943, and 1944 all S Mint
2 Shilling, 1942, 1943, and 1944 all S Mint
