I have never returned anything to the US mint. I would also say that my standards are much lower than those who have made their issues known to the community.

If I did not crack my proof sets (that is, I actually collected the sets and did not move the coins into my Dansco albums), then there would have been at least two proof sets that would have been returned. However, both had issues with the packaging, not the coins.

Thanks Jbuck. As I have brcome more knowledgeable about coin collect I found a few sets that really don't look that good and I probably should have returned.

I just returned a 2011 Unc. Set and 2011 Proof Set. Both had a scratch on at least one of the coins. This is the first time I have tried to return items for replacement. I called the US Mint Customer Service first and they put a note in my record that I was going to be returning them for replacement. Just received email today that my replacements have been shipped. Also learned that I can file a claim for the return postage.

I returned a 5 ounce silver quarter because Washington had a scratch on him. I called them, made arrangements to send it back and get a replacement. Everything went smoothly. No hassles at all.

To answer the question....no I have never returned anything from the US mint because I don't want the hassle. I have only ever ordered mint or proof sets.

About 1 out of 5 that I have ever ordered had something wrong with it. It was always minor though. A small crack in the packaging or some minor spotting on one coin, stuff like that.

I finally had enough, I wasn't happy with what I was receiving, It took a couple returns on a 10th oz GAE to land the right one. Same thing for 2011 as well. Add an america the beauiful 5oz to the list. But in a fit of rage I forgot all about the different finish, or unfinshed surface. Cause after seeing scratches across the obverse. I flipped out and packaged it right back up and took it to the post office. Didn't hit me until later that night when I read it on the forum.

I have never needed to make a return out of 20 or so orders consisting of multiple products each time.

I've returned proof and uncirculated sets for various reasons over the years, for scratches and spotting, mainly. Usually it's not more than a set returned per year. Never have returned any single coins, although like amassey08873, I received one of the banged up 'unfinished' Grand Canyon 5oz. pucks. Kept it and merely ordered another one. Don't even know what the premium is on the unfinished coin, but it's an interesting error to have. Generally the quality control is pretty good over at the Mint's distribution arm at PBGS in Indianapolis, but I am one of those that doesn't expect perfection at any time, so you should take my words with a grain of salt.

Or what you will.
