Hi there again. I'm just wondering if the die markers for DDO and DDR coins will be the same for every coin that falls within that classification? For example, will a 1972 P DD0-004 coin have like or the same die markers on every 1972 P DDO-004 type coin that is found? Thanks everyone and Happy Holidays.

Well yes and no. If the die is only used for a short time then yes the same markers will probably be on all of them. But if the die is used for a full normal run then the markers may change some, some may disappear completely, and some new ones may form. So you could have one set of markers on an early stage of the die and a different set on a late die stage.

To expand on Conder's comments, when you look at coppercoins for help you'll notice the marker photos listed as EDS (early die stage), MDS (mid die), or LDS (late die). One some cents you see example photos from more that one stage, so you'll want to check all.

I've never understood the different classes listed, can anyone explain them.

Hey thanks for explaining that chickenboy. I was wondering about the acronym names but wasn't sure. I've already asked about the classes of doubling but I think that I just got referred back to coppercoins and the Lincoln Cent resource.

It is a long subject but it has images to help. You might want to take a lot of time and look at it systematically to learn it all. Add to your favorites to find it easier.

Thanks again coop. I've ran into this site a couple of times already but haven't yet had the chance to check it out. Much appreciated.
