The other day I found a 2009 $1 citizenship "S" mint your own coin in my change and started thinking...non-circulating coins do occasionally turn up in circulation. I would be interested to hear what ones you have. [Possibly our friends in other countries might also list theirs in the appropriate section of the forum.] Most I have found have been mint-your-own $1. Not hard to figure out how they escaped. I usually sell those on ebay and they often fetch a reasonable price. I have also sold duplicate 50¢ coat of arms. I have been able to buy a few $200 gold coins (at face value) that have been cashed in at local bank branches. These probably don't count as they have not really been circulated -one was even still in original mint package. They have sold very well on ebay, gold price being what it now is. Anyway, to start it off, here is what I currently have; - 1981 20¢ proof
- 1992 20¢
- 1986 50¢
- 1986 50¢ proof
- 1987 50¢
- 1989 50¢
- 1990 50¢
- 1992 50¢
- 2006 50¢ Royal Visit

The ones I got was 20c lifesaver coin and 50c commonwealth games "one of the sporting pics" -- technically dint make it to circulation as it was cashed in at the bank and the lady put it to one side for me. Don't you just love making friend with bank people; I give them a box of chocolates once or twice a year for being so nice to me.

My local Post office lady gave me a round 50c for 50c that an old lady had "spent" with them. I tried to give her a few dollars for it and she wouldn't take it so the charity box at the desk won.
I have found numerous NCLT dollars in the pokies, a few proofs but I haven't been lucky enough to find a mule.

Whenever I go to RSL and spend a few bucks on the pokies I always get excited checking the coins for that 2000 mule!
I just check dates, mostly you see 1984, but when you infrequently see a "2000", my heart always jumps a beat!

Wow, I am doing better than I thought. Just found these coins in my 'to be sorted and put in albums' bin; - 1980 50¢ proof
- 1992 50¢
- 2006 50¢ Commonwealth games, shooting
So, I have a spare 1992 50¢ available now. Also with these a 1993 50¢ aUNC -not an NCLT coin but very desirable. Looking forward to hearing of others from you. Jeff

I did half a dozen 'Mint Your Own' Barcelonas way back in 1992. I put a $2 coin the the slot to activate the press for each one. I just happened to be visiting Canberra on the 3rd of january 1992, and I had no idea that it was the first day that the mint had put a 'Mint Your Own' coining press into operation. I still have all six of those coins, but at the time, I had not the slightest idea that they would be woth more than $2 in later years. THEY never went into circulation!
I have however, recovered a pad printed al bronze dollar fron circulation.

It's taken a while, but I've just found my first NCLT dollar coin.. 200 years of Australia Post - 2009. I think this was a PNC only issue Had 2 x $500 bags of dollar coins today, but aside from this one there was very little else. Ah, well, at least I now have a NCLT from circ. About time

....I have recently been "plodding along" with my noodling without any significant finds However, just yesterday I found an unusually dated 50 cent piece as shown below... ...my faith in "persistent noodling" has been restored I wonder how many of these 1987 fifty cent pieces were minted? Good find! Most of my NCLT finds are $1 coins and anything else is really cause for excitement. Tens of thousands of the 1987 50c piece probably.

Thanks MrT I also have some $1 NCLT coins which I found in my noodling. But I agree that the 50 cent NCLT coins are a lot rarer. So far I have found two. My other one is shown below. Now a 1988 50 cent "mule" would be REALLY nice Squire

Another good find - the only non-$1 NCLT I've found is a 2012 5c piece with the low echidna which at first glance looks exactly the same as a circulating 2012 5c piece. I'm sure if I went through greater numbers I'd have more luck...
