Very nice looking coin and as far as grading goes it looks to be the higher end of the grade with it starting with .79. At least thats how they use to go back in the day.

Another beautiful Morgan. A great strike for the date/ mm I might add.

I like seeing older books that list the 1904-O as a scarce date and worth a small fortune when now they are one of the most common date you can find in super high grades. It would have been allot better if they had been marketed a little better, they should have slowly introduced them to the market instead of how they did it. I am sure ALLOT of collectors got burned when they flooded the market with thousands of Mint State coins of this particular date at one time. I have even seen albums for Morgans that call this date/mm combination as very scarce

Looks like it could be a VAM-30A, but the photos are not definitive. Nice story about a cool Morgan Series that I like a lot.

Sometimes old dogs just don't learn new tricks very well. My bad. The old V30A is now the new V36A. Sorry 'bout that.

Actually, the big example was the 1903o, which went from $1500 retail to $30 or so between issues of the RB, I think 1963-4. Please provide correct numbers if you have those handy.

You are correct biggfred. My 1973 edition lists all published values from the 1947 1st edition to the 1972 edition. The 1903-O is way overpriced today based on the actual survival numbers. This one makes the 1882, 1883 and 1884 CC look like good values.

Very nice coin & interesting story. I don't understand what would of been so hard about keeping track of the melted coins when the Pittman Act was introduced? At least we would have a better idea of the mintages that are still out there.

I takes a few seconds to dump a bag into a furnace. It would take hours to write down 1000 dates and mintmarks, and nobody cared, or the coins would be in circulation, not sitting in vaults.
