Found this tonight on youtube thought some of you might get a kick out of watching it.

im fairly new to collecting and new to earth (compared to a lot of collectors. I recently read about these dollars in a Scott Travers book and I wanted to know more! Thanks for this! Great find!
WOW...flashback! That video is soooo early seventies. I wanted to put on a dashiki and protest tricky Dicks removal of the US from the gold standard! Thanks great find!
Glad you all enjoyed the video! I remember when the GSA released these to the public for sale, I tried to talk my Dad into buying a bunch, he wouldn't didn't think they would be worth all that much more in the future. DOH! I was too poor to afford them on my lawn mowing income back then.

Quote: BiggFredd: Tarnished coins went in the reject pile, put in different colored holders, and sold for $15 instead of $30.
That was during the 1st sale? I don't remember them being that cheap when I tried to get my Dad to buy some in 1980, I recall they were around $55.00 or close to that price. I wasn't into coin collecting until 1978, and nobody else I knew was either.

Just looked it up: Five separate mail-bid auctions were held from 1972 through 1974 and a final sale in 1980.
I know because my coin buddy and I met in High School in 1980, and his Dad bought a few from the last sale, my Dad didn't, and I couldn't afford any myself, my friend bought 2 as I recall.

I noticed that the video claims that some of the "silver dollars" included in this stash were minted as early as 1870, which would make them Seated Liberty dollars instead of Morgans. Is this true? I always heard the stash was purely Morgans.
