I know I am a noob at this, and I profess nothing about having mastered the hobby. However I dove in from the word go and have devoted ALOT of time and money to my new hobby. One of the subjects that invariabely comes up both online and in general discussion among local collectors that I network with is what dealers are fair, priced right, buy at fair prices etc. Soooooo, I thought maybe we could all list our favorite local places to buy. Then if any of us is going on a trip to a certain city, we could reference this thread and be able to jot down a place or two to visit with inventory that is new to us while on vacation. Sooooo, I live in Dallas/Ft Worth, a city of 6 million, and I have 3 outstanding places that I frequent:

Liberty Coins in Mansfield Texas. owner: Tim Lavasseur

HEB Gold and Silver in Bedford Texas. owner: Joe Ferstal

Southwest Gold & Silver in Ft Worth Texas. owner: Randy

I have had great experiences in education, buying, and selling at all three. Hope this thread takes off! GO!

Have a look at their membership to profesional dealer associations. You can usually find some evidence of this with a membership certificate displayed in the premisis and in their advertisements in coin magazines, or on the 'Net.

The standard of expertise of the main dealers within Australia within their fields of speciality is usually very high. These sorts of dealers are very jealous of their reputation, and try hard to maintain their reputation.

That is important to me, because I am a generalist in numismatics, not a specialist. My collecting interests are far too wide.
