You're really asking $10K for that?

Just a bit over priced... I think a couple bucks would be the most an experienced error collector might pay. Dropped letters don't usually command too much of a premium, and the doubling at best is just Machine Doubling, which does not command any premium at all.

I remembered I saw Fred Weinberg have one sold on ebay a month or two ago, and it went for few hundreds if my memory serve me right.

Not worth 10Grand, but worth a couple hundred when slabbed. They are interesting errors and people do appreciate them as the rare items they are.

He has had 2 or 3 up in the last month or so. All of them were on state/territory quarters I believe. They too were sold at strong prices.

Until that most recent ebay auction, dropped letters had been consistently selling for well under $100. I've never gotten more than $50 for one on ebay.

OK I give up.What is a dropped T ? I've looked at the pictures in the auction but I don't see anything spectaculer enough to call for ten grand and I thought the Mint Mark was applied to the hub which would make a Double MM impossible unless it's just die chatter?

Do you think these received strong bidding due to their series/denomination? I looked back at the two most recenet that sold and they were the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico quarters. It seems like people will pay for these errors since there have been very few released.

Edited to add:
jasper62, here are the 2 auctions that I was talking about. You should be able to spot the error in these two coins. It is kind of hard to see in this Utah quarter.

Oh, and I found another Utah dropped letter. It really didn't receive as much bidding as the other two.

Thank you, I truly value all your knowledgeable inputs. This web site is a blessing to the novice collectors. I know 10k is way off, but hey a fellow can dream. I dream of paying off my Christmas bills.... ugh! It's still a nice coin that's never been in circulation. I'm not a real big variety collector but its beauty beckons me to slab it! It will take a rather large bid to convince me not to keep this baby.
