Found this one. It is the Lebanon 1952 25 piastres in VF-XF condition. I've seen dozens of these coins and they have all been the usual yellow color of the aluminum-bronze strike of this coin. This one I believe is copper or bronze. The colors you see are the actual colors of the coin (the obverse appears to have been cleaned, the reverse was not). The coin is reeded and the edge is totally the same color as the coin (no yellow at all).Anyway I measured the coin, it is 23.4mm in diameter (spec size is 23.3mm) and 1.3m thick (spec size 1.39mm). It weighs 4.03 grams versus the spec weight of the Al-Brz one of 3.97 grams. Close enough I guess but the color bothered me.
Since the coin has the caduceus mark of the Dutch mint, I checked the Netherlands listings for anything close to this coin in bronze or copper alloy. The 2-1/2 cent coin minted 1912 to 1941(KM-150) is almost right on (except it wasn't minted in 1952) (KM-150 is 23.4mm in diameter and weighs 4.00 grams).
Netherlands Antilles hade 2-1/2 cent bronze coins on the same standard as Netherlands, 4.0 grams, 23.4mm diameter, and 1.28MM thick though they were minted from 1956 to 1965. Curacao minted 2-1/2 cent coins to the same standard from 1944 to 1948.
Any comments?
Thanks
