Struck through Die Cap? I'm not sure the difference between that and a brockage. But it looks like a legitimate error to me.

It's a clashed cap strike, a type of brockage. A late-stage die cap collided directly with the reverse die when a planchet failed to be fed into the striking chamber. The working face of the die cap picked up a partial raised reverse design. It struck the next few planchets, one of them represented by this coin. The result is a strong ghost of Lincoln in association with a crisp, but incomplete brockage.
Error coin writer and researcher.

I don't understand why the date and mintmark are so sharp when it appears by the image of the memorial building that the thin die cap was still covering the date.

They happened to be in a field area of the reverse.

Partial die cap in striking chamber. Just leaving an imprint on part of the coin.
