I had a 1987 in similar condition (mostly the reverse was affected), but I can't find unfortunately. It was so bad that even the mintmark had fallen off (there was a D shaped crater where the mm used to be). Anyways interesting find.

I found one like that recently. The bubbles haven't burst through the copper plating yet so the whole coin looks like it has chicken pox or something. I was wondering what caused that. The zinc corroding?

mwr1550:
Gas bubbles, on John's coin the bubbles have opened up and the zinc is starting to "rot" due to exposure.
