I don't know about the 1 oz. Engelhard " Prospector" silver coin other than it is an oz. of silver. I bought some a while ago and wanted to know more about them. There don't seem to be many around.

There's a number of them floating around. Standard Engelhard 1oz silver rounds. Minted in the 80s I think. What's rarer is the Engelhard gold prospector rounds. The gold ones used to come in assayed cards too. That, is not seen much these days.

1985 is a cool year though. It was the only year they made fractional rounds. They made 1/10, 1/4, and 1/2 ozt. Put together they are a neat set that actually sells at a substantial premium.

A little more information on these rounds as I love to collect them. As another member mentioned, 1985 was the only year they made fractional silver prospector rounds.

Collecting a fractional prospector set has collector value.

1983, then 1986 & 1987 are the years to snag if you're into the 1 oz rounds and want add extra collector value/story.

Most of my dealers (I would think the majority) don't care about the year of a prospector. They sell them to me for the same price as any other prospector in stock.

Good luck and welcome to the forms.

Thanks for the info all. They are surely a good looking coin. I was buying Maples one day and was offered Prospectors for $2 less each. It seemed like a deal I could not pass up. I will have to look for the rest of them.
