Dutch colony of Netherlands Antilles, located in the Caribbean. Includes the islands of Curacao, St. Maarten, and few others. (Aruba once was part of this colony, but it gained an upgraded "Status Aparte" back in the 1980's)

There were six (now five) islands or island-groups in the Netherlands Antilles (Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire, near mainland South America, and St Eustatius, Saba and the southern part of St Martin, just west of the US Virgin Islands). These were represented on your coin by the six stars on the shield (and probably the six stars on the reverse, too). When Aruba seceded, the coins were redesigned to only have five stars on the shield.

The Netherlands Antilles and Aruba are the last Dutch "colonies" anywhere in the world; the last remnants of a once-widespread empire. Curiously, the "colonial" coinage is still in use; it hasn't been replaced by the euro.
