it appears the great battle series from tuvalu and sold at the Perth Mint was a bust because they can be bought on ebay cheaper then from the Perth Mint.

Many Perth Mint coins have, historically, been poor performers. This stems, at least in part, from oversupply. Perth Mint don't remove an item from sale until they sell enough of them. The Battles coins were struck in 2009, and the only one that's sold out so far is (perhaps predictably) the Gettysburg coin; all the others are still being sold on their site.

I'm not quite sure what the target market for these coins were. It certainly wasn't the people of Australia, or of Tuvalu for that matter, since the vast majority of people from either of these countries will not have heard of any of the five battles represented in the series. No local collector base means coins that were never likely to be a major sellout.

Don't forget, too, the price of an ounce of silver has fallen since those prices were last updated. Not that raw bullion price is a major component of most Perth Mint collector coins these days.

I have the famous AUSTRALIAN Battle series, and they are quite nice, however only the first has sold out so far, but being full time ADF these hold a value above what I paid.
