I'm gonna go with just toning. If it was copper, it would have a less quality strike.

Looks like heat damaged, the reverse looks warped below "UNUM"

There is what looks like oxidation on the "M", the "N" looks funky, and there is an apparent continuation of the dark "streak" through to the left of the steps.

I have some really nicely golden toned copper nickel crown sized coins. Almost enough to ask if they were gold or not!
