My crazy wish would be for someone to come and look through my coins and tell me what I have. I would want to know the good, the bad and the ugly. Naturally, I would be right by his side so I could learn. I would even feed him for the day.

Knowledge is wonderful, but I don't have it now and not sure how long it would take to get there on the coins I already have. A jump start diagnosis on my collection would be a dream come true. Then I could go from there... with minimum help.

I know my wish is crazy, but if I ever run across someone in my area with the knowledge and time, I will ask for his help in a heart beat!

If you want personal, one-on-one assistance, try enquiring at your local coin club. While coin dealers are often too busy to take the time to explain all the ins and outs to a new collector that isn't buying stuff off them, coin club members often have all the time in the world.

If anyone will be in the New Orleans area and has time to kill, please let me know. Would love to hear what you have to say about my collection. Still waiting on supplies to come in to organize them better. They are coming out of albums and being put on 2x2s for easier handling. Then all the 2x2s will be put in those long 2x4 boxes (with divider) and labeled foreign, US 40%, etc.

Glenzy1.... come on down here. I dont cook, but I sure know some good restaurants. We have the best food in the world down here and I know where to go to get it. SEE! I am good at something!

Cajunlady, I suspect that even with an inexpensive point-and-shoot camera, we can get you to the point of being able to post serviceable images here for evaluation. If you have a camera, wander down to our Photography forum and post a "request for help" thread. You might be surprised at what you're capable of.

I don't necessarily wish I still lived down there, BUT... I do miss the food.

As been suggested, why don't you start small and post a few photos here for us to help you with determining what you have? Even inexpensive cameras or scanners will work.

And do you have a copy of the Red Book of U.S. Coins? You know, part of the fun of coin collecting is discovering and learning about coins, and it sounds like you have an exciting journey ahead of you!

I could do a float trip down the Mississippi river from Memphis! I haven't been in New Orleans for a few years. About the farthest south I travel from here is Jackson, MS.

Good luck with getting your collection organized. I keep mine in 2 X 2's and then in the 60 pocket Whitman folders.

I am still waiting on the supplies.....am chumping at the bit right now. I am at a standstill until they arrive. I am gonna be so organized it will be scary! I will know what I have and where it is. I find the albums too bulky, plus I dont have the money to buy the albums that I need. But I do for the 2x2s and the boxes they fit in. Won't know if I have enough supplies until I start organizing. That will be the fun part. I will be looking at all my coins again.

I have a 2006 Red Book, but it works just fine for what I need it for. And then I have a 1977 (don't laugh) Official A.N.A. Grading Standards For U.S. Coins book. Won't be looking at that until I am organized with my coins. Plus, I don't think I have many worthwhile coins to really matter in the grading aspect.
