I'm having a hard time with some older nickels I found that I think are proofs. 5 of the 7 have full steps and look like proofs, so I'm pretty sure they are. another 1 of the 7 I decided was just a good strike and not proof. The last one is a 1969 s nickel that looks kind of like a proof, but then it does not have full steps like the other proofs I found. Could they have just been worn down from circulation? the rest of the coin is superb. I wish there was a defining characteristic between business strike and proof nickels :/

I don;t have a good camera to take pics with. I usually just use my phone, but it isn't good enough to capture the proofness or the details.

I found a 69 s that has all the signs of a proof coin but a lot of people said it was a good strike

full steps can wear. Is the rise from the fields to the rims sharp?

The steps can wear off with circulation . Mirror fields and strong strike is a good sign of proof or SMS coins !

Tough question to address ... in my experience Proof Jefferson 'jump out' as obvious during my roll finds ...

Show some photos of the questionable ones ... then we can offer better opinions.

tough call, but from those pictures I'm not seeing any proof like qualities at all
pictures are hard to get though, I'm sure the coins look different in hand. I always have trouble with the late 60's s mints
interesting stuff

, wang chien sheng!

I see nothing that would indicate a proof, which have mirror surfaces.
