PCGS will not grade any ASE MS70 so it will be impossible to obtain a complete 20th Anniversary set graded 70 at PCGS.

Here is the PCGS statement...

Question: Why doesn't PCGS grade Silver American Eagles in MS-70?

Answer: The chemical rinse that the U.S. Mint uses on these coins can cause white spots to develop over time. In most cases, the spots cannot be removed. Until that problem is resolved, the responsible choice for PCGS is to stay away from the MS-70 grade, even though some technically perfect examples exist.

Isn't this an old process that has always been used on the ASE's? I have older ASE's that show these white "spots". It never seemed to stop the TPG's from handing out MS-70 grades before. After the "first stike" controversy of '06, it looks like PCGS may have made a few New Year's resolutions!

Lemme see if I understand this: PCGS is NOT going to give any "70" grades to MS ASEs because of POSSIBLE future "spots" developing. Uh huh. And where did they get their crystal ball ?

PCGS has been burned repeatedly by these white spots based on having to honor their guarantee. I can fully understand their position.

If that's the case (which I don't doubt), then how come there were all those first strike 70 sets on ebay? Something is weird here. I have lost all respect for PCGS in the time I've been collecting coins (less than a year now). I don't care if their coins are worth more than an NGC slab, I just don't like all this stuff going on with them. Bahhh.....
