The mail brought me my "Find" and it looks ohhhhhh so nice. Almost too nice. I need everyone's thoughts on whether this 1821 Large Cent is genuine and, if so, what grade would you give it. There is no corrosion and lots of detail still to be found. On the reverse the partial striking of the "E" in "ONE" and the "C" in "CENTS" should make it easy to identify to variety. However, I have no reference materials for the Mid-year Coppers. All comments will be greatly appreciated. PG

I have a bad vibe about this coin. I have been comparing this coin to ones sold by Heritage. The date seems to be a bit especially the two 1's which seem thinner than the genuine ones and Liberty seems a tad off. The details seem to be a bit mushy especially on the reverse. According to PCGS Coinfacts there are only two die pairs and the partial striking that you mention I don't see on certified examples or the pictures on Coinfacts of either die pair. I hate to have to rain on your parade.

Now I agree with F12. Genuine? I'll leave that up to the EAC guys to make that call.

My 1821 LC isn't great but does show some serious discrepancies between the two coins' dates...

Houston, we have a problem.... I, like all, think this is not a genuine coin. At first look, it appeared too "Clean" for the wear - no scratches, rub marks, etc. The 1's in the date definitely don't match Moe's 21 or any of the several in PCGS' Price Guide. The reverse is the same with lack of definition less any resultant signs of wear. Time to contact the seller and break the news... Sometimes chicken, sometimes steak, sometimes potted meat with no crackers. "Cherry Picking" is still a hoot though! Thanks again to all.... PG
