Finally back from ANACS and ready for the grading challenge. 100,000 of these coins were minted out of 100% copper by a private company in 1847 for use in the (at that time) Kingdom of Hawaii. Few remain. In 1883 the US Mint in San Fransciso minted a series of Charles Barber designed silver coins (dime, quarter, half, and dollar) that were legal tender until 1900 when Hawaii became a U.S. Possession. At that time all Hawaii-unique coins could no longer be used as valid coinage in the Islands.
Grade guesses welcome. Result posted tomorrow. Paleoguy45

That is a cool coin for sure. It appears to be very well preserved for a pure (soft) copper planchet. I would have to guess it came back AU details because of the what's going on with the obverse.

I will try AU-50 details due to reasons already mentioned.

AU-50 details, corroded, obv laminations. ANACS doesn't net grade anymore but if they did I'd say VF-30.

Since I have no experience with this series of coin, only held maybe 2 in my hands I'm just watching and learning on this one, I do see a bunch of old corrosion on the surfaces, the lamination defect is kind of neat, I always like weird stuff and errors.
