Wow that's a beautiful MS details coin that unfortunately gets docked to AU58 for the verdigras on the reverse- that one should be treated with that Veri-gone stuff- and likely could bring it back to MS.

MS60+ BN, it might have been cleaned at one time. Nice IHC of a difficult date in this condition.

I dabbed some Verdi-Care on it and got some improvement.

mycrob-Please correct me if I am wrong but can MS coin be docked to AU on verdigris alone. Wouldn't the verdigris just knock it down to a lower MS- 61 or 62. I thought there had to be some wear for a coin to grade AU.

Might just go MS61 or MS62.

If you are unlucky its an AU58. Not too bad.

I don't see any wear in the photo, how ever the cheek has a few hits.

My guess is MS61/2.

Nice coin.

Grading services supposedly employ a "market grading" philosophy which basically means the assigned grade should correspond to the fair-market value of the coin. A heavily bag-marked or unattractive MS coin therefore might be assigned an AU grade if in the opinion of the graders the defects reduce the market value of the coin to that of a normal AU example.

Just to add confusion, if that same MS coin however has a cleaning problem on top of its other defects it might get a grade of "MS Detail - Cleaned".

Anyway, your coin does appear to have Mint State detail and the Verdi-Care treatment has definitely reduced the potential verdigris problem. I think it could grade as high as MS-62, limited by the obverse carbon spots, small contact marks, and apparently weak luster. I don't see any obvious signs of recoloring or objectionable cleaning. Many collectors (like me!) would be very pleased to own this attractive and valuable better-date IHC.
Rest in Peace
