Ok I got this coin from my secret santa and was pondering if it was a VAM. I really haven't learned much about them so I decided to go to VAM world. Man there are over 40 vams for this date. So I looked at one in here from a 2007 post. The date is over 3 denticles away from the point of the neck, there looks to be an ear inside the ear, the O on the back looks semi filled and there is a weak die crack on the left side of the eagles breast.

Now I am using a 40X led lighted loupe. I will be taking some pic's later on for you to look at. Also this coin has great rim toning and it came in a littleton holder copyright date 2002 on the package. I have taken a few photo's and I will be trying a few more shots tonight to see if I can get any better ones.

ok I tried a few things and it sort of worked. I used my 5 megapixel camera with my 40x loupe and got some ok pics.

Like I said I am still learning how to get a better close up and saw that someone used this camera with the loupe so I tried it.

Per your note to staff, I added some to the title. If there is a specific rewording you would like, let me know.

By the way, I know nothing about VAM, so I hope someone can help you!

I am sure SuperDave will comment when he gets home from work.

I cant tell from the photos. But if it has the gouge next to the star right after Dollar and the gouge in the viewers upper right wing I would say...yes

You don't need the 40x loupe to get good pictures with a 5 megapixel camera. Mount the camera to a tripod, place directly above the coin, use a timer to avoid shaking, focus as good as you can from about 8-10 inches, provide good lighting, and snap away. From there you should be able to crop and resize and get good pics of the mintmark to help decide. If your camera has any kind of macro setting you can try that as well from a closer range. Big thing is to use a timer and let the camera be completely still with good lighting. A close up of the mintmark and the star between the "R" of dollar and "A" of America on the reverse would be enough I think. If you don't own a tripod, just stack some books up on either side of the coin and lay the camera on top like a "bridge" to take the photos.

This is a photo from a 5 megapixel camera with a marco setting. No post processing either:

Your best bet for this one is to match the wavy-looking O/O line inside the mint mark. The die gouge next to the star tends to fade away in later die state coins, and might be hard to identify.
