Ok so I know that is a big no no to clean coins but I have a question. I found a 1995 dd in a roll and it has a bit of the blue powdery corrosion stuff on it. Is there any safe way to clean this off such as using plain water and a light finger rub and letting it dry?

I see no problem using a very worn out tooth brush and some mild soap under running cool water. Don't tell any of the other members I told you this

Corrosion/stains won't wash off. They are on the coin permantly unless you dip them and ruin them. Best advice, don't clean a coin. If the coin is/was BU, then touching it up ruins the value. On circulated coin caked with grease around the devices, soaking it in mineral oil will help loosen it, but ONLY on circulated coins. It will not remove corrosion or stains. Only grime around the devices. To remove corrosion is to remove part of the surface and ruins the coin to a collector/grader.

So the tooth brush won't cause any damage of any kind to the surface while removing the grime?

If it's a circulated coin and you are very gentle I see no problem. But,do this on your own accord. Can you post before and after photos and tell us what you cleaned it with and how?

Certainly cleaning a coin will reduce it's value.

But what if it doesn't have any value to begin with, because the corrosion has ruined it already?
Rest in Peace

Chad-
Are you using the link on the reply to topic window?

Also, if you have images uploaded to photobucket or similar, you can just use [ img]url[ /img] without the spaces.
