I have a 1959 penny that looks mint but has lost is copper tone. Does colour matter when grading? and do you start grading by damage first, then colour?

would this grade as an MS Brown?

It matters in mint states because red cents and five cents (when referring to tombac) should be annotated with the percentage of red that they are. Red coins bring higher prices.

That coin looks MS 63 brown, trace red. It could also be PL but it's tough to make out the fields on brown cents in a picture.

Wow, nice toning on that coin. I would call that 'lustrous brown'.
