People mess with coins to try to make something look like it was something it isn't. When they realize it isn't fooling anyone, they spend it. From circulation probably 90% or more on this forum came from circulation.

I can see what you're saying coop but it just seems like alot of work for nothing to me. Either way, I put it in a 2x2 and tucked it away to view another day. Thanks to everyone who took the time to reply on this thread.

Looked at your link Coop. What is sad about this is that clearly enough people seem to be biting to make it a lucrative practice. It also makes me wonder how many coin collectors are really that gullable. That in itself is sad. I believe all collectors should strive to be educated enough to not fall victim to these obvious PMD coins. Also sad, some of those damaged coins were actually once nice coins. Maybe not keys to any set, but still nice.

Yeah, I looked at it too Coop and Chadwick. Sorry about the late reply to the link. For some reason when I read the last post I didn't even notice the link to the ebay auctions there. I was getting ready to turn in for the night and I didn't even notice the link until now. Sorry about that Coop. To me, most of these coins look heated and fake and I noticed that none of them seems to be evenly toned and nobody even posted a clear pic in the auctions. I agree that there are sellers on ebay who will take full advantage of unsuspecting buyers and keep themselves safe by their choice of words in their listing. People will say stuff like uncirculated in bank roll but not include the word unsearched in the auction. I guess that it's up to the potential buyer to ask those questions before making the purchase. Anyways, thanks again Coop.

Oh and I should have added, I don't think that the coin that I found wasn't faked. I just never found one yet in circulation. Thanks again.
