Perhaps many collectors here know of this site, which I believe is written by a fellow member here. I have a lot to learn on ancients, and this site has been fascinating!

Thanks for the kind words. I'm always happy to hear suggestions on what new pages might be appreciated. The site started in 1997 and some of the material needs updating. For example I have considered deleting the half dozen different pages on coin photography and replacing all with one but some of those old ones still have use to some people so I have left them stand. Right or wrong?

Something I struggle with is to properly read/decipher legends on Roman coins. I find that many letters cut into late Roman/Byzantine coins difficult to read--even modern cyrillic is easier by comparison. No doubt, knowledge comes with experience, but are there any "crash courses" to help me with the learning curve? Thanks!

As long as people are getting use out of it, let them be I say. Or update them, if you feel they are lacking, either way.
I also appreciate all the hard work over the years on the site. I've learned quite a bit and I still haven't read near half of the site yet.

Doug,
You've put together some amazing content. With as old as your site is I would hesitate in telling you to delete anything. There are several different reasons for this which aren't coin related but site and indexing related.
That said I also think there are some CMS packages out there that could help you tremoundously in editing / updating / creating content.
If you're interested I would be happy to give you some advice but I'd rather it be in the form of a pm. I'd hate to write out half a book and you only be interested in a paragraph of it.
Once again, GREAT CONTENT.

One thing that makes Roman coins hard to read is the number of abbreviations used. I did a page on that. Another is the point many miss that there is a 500 year difference in the date of these coins and the cutters came from all across a huge empire. We should not expect all the coins to be done in the same typeface.
Thanks, Springcypress, but the only reason my site exists is that I wanted to learn some basic HTML back in 1997. I needed something to use for practice and picked coins from my several hobby interests. Then, as now, I was repulsed by pages coded by package software that writes unintelligible (to me) code. A few of my pages use tricks that might be considered unnecessary (like that image mapped photo on the index page) but mostly it is very plain brown wrapper code written from scratch and that is the way I prefer it. I find 95% of the web cluttered and gimmicky so I'll keep presenting my amateur content in the same amateur code.

As a very new member, I would say that not only the content of this site is stellar, but the contributors are so friendly and willing to offer their expertise and time to this awesome hobby to anyone who asks! Please don't do anything to the site until I've read everything! (might take a year or two!)
