Odd you should post this and I have a mint mark on a 1946 D nickel that looks much like yours and was what I thought might be a 1946D over inverted D but it may just be a re-punched mint mark. Later I picked up another. Notice that in my real one, that the D is rounded and I have another image here below that which I found someplace to compare mine for the real one.
