Hey all, I got this one the other day 1992 50 cent Error, I believe its an error caused by oil? Please correct me if I'm wrong. And more information about this error would help. Also is there a name for this type of error? These types of errors do they ad value or take value away from any coin? thanks

Looks like PMD to me. It looks like part of the coin has been eaten away with a strong acid or sand blasted

This coin has the typical look of a struck-through greasy-metallic-crud error. Since it covers a large portion of the coin, it would be desirable for a collector of struck through coins. I personally have an active collection of Canadian struck-through errors. This is a nice one.

In 1992 the planchet for these was the exact same pure nickel they were in 1968. I don't think think this is PMD, and I don't even think it's a strike through. I think this planchet had a large irregular split out of it pre strike. Unlike copper, silver, cupro nickel and so on, pure nickel doesn't have near the flow of those other alloys or metals under pressures used for minting. As always I could be off my rock entirely, but I'm honest about what I think. Can you accurately weigh this item? Edit some nouns.

Thanks for the replies, and yes I forgot to add the weight of the coin. 8.13g . hmm kind of odd that it weighs more then the 8.1g it should? is is that what a strike through does?
thanks again

Looks like a struck through. I like the look of it and it would be in my keep pile. The shape of it is quite odd...looks like the section below the second A in CANADA is struck normally which is new to me. Nice coin.

With the mass being so dead on I have to agree it's a strike through, but it just does not look like grease at all.
Plastic maybe. That flat normally struck spot below the D is just throwing me. It's too crisp on the edges.
I understand fully that grease is a generic term when used in this sense.

Certainly a desirable coin for error collectors. Nice one!
