I have searched several hundreds of dollars worth of pennies and have only found one 1998 Wide AM. I have never found a 2000 which I hear is the most common. I one day would love to find a 1999. I recently had about 200 98,99,00 pennies separated that I looked through at once and knew I wouldnt find any, but still could dream right? For people who have found any WAM what is an estimate of 98,99, 2000 coins that you have looked through before finding the WAM? not how many pennies or boxes, but actual coins from those years only.

There's no way to measure that. In one box I have found 3 WAMs but now I haven't found any in the last 12 boxes. As far as actual coins that a toughie. Still no way to gauge that unless you are documenting searches.

I probably have searched on average at least four boxes a week for the past three years. I have over fifty each of the 1998 and 2000. In the same time period I have found nine of the 1999. I have found as many as two 1999 in one week, but I have also gone ten or eleven months without finding one. There is one rhyme or reason to find one, just go through enough coins.
Still Lookin

still looking, you have found 9 of the 1999s? How about saving some for the rest of us! By the way, where do you live? I wonder if those finds are geographically localized ?

Are those the only years to find the CAM or WAM in?

Look for the CAMs in 1992 & 1992D cents and in proof 1998, 1999 & 2000 cents. Of course you come up with discovery pieces for both in other years.

The WAM varieties are a favorite of mine to search for. I've searched over $1000 in cents and feel lucky to have found the single 1999 WAM that I have. It is a tough coin to find for certain. I can only speculate what the future of this coin will be. I fully expect that they will become much more valuable as years go by. I also speculate that what is pulled from circulation will be all we will have of the WAM varieties. These zinc cents simply rot away very quickly. In another 10-15 years there will not be anymore being pulled from circulation in any numbers or condition to matter. Get them while you can is what I say. Good luck with your search.

I agree with Chadwick. The zincolns' days are numbered. I wonder how many 1999 WAMS-or 98s or 00s for that matter-have disintegrated or just been toosed out for being too uigly to spend. Find em now!
