I was wondering if anyone knew who made the cases for the coins the mint packaged stuff in circa 1980.

I ask because I was going through junk I bought in bulk and one of the items is a 1980 set of what appears to be uncirculated business strikes in a leather and wood case with a gold Canada sticker on the top. On the bottom it's marked "Renwick" in leather circle embedded in the wood. Inside is a plastic tray lined in fake velour stuff the same consistency as what I find in clamshell cases and it's shedding on the coins and has toned them the same way.

Renwick was apparently a fine luggage and briefcase maker in Canada going back quite some time. They seem to have been absorbed by some other luggage maker pre internet era.

Do you know if they made all the mint cases and what not?

Obligatory picture;

They probably are the same who did the 76 Olympic wooden cases. (Sorry, I sold all my Olympic silver coins so I used other coins to fill in the holes).

There, I knew I'd seen that case before and I have, I've gotten rid of a number of them. Just wasn't recent enough that it "tweaked" for me. Thank you CC. It does seem likely the RCM would have a long time arrangement with someone to manufacture their casing and such. I must say the boxes are well made for what they are, in the instance of the coins in my photos the box is worth considerably more than the coins.

Merci
