Wow, that thought just blew my own mind.

Maybe one day we will be taking pictures of our coins with 3D cameras, and sharing them in high-resolution formats whose relief slaps us in the face as our trinkets pop out of the screen. Would love to see the High-Relief St. Gaudens like that.

Could easily be done even now. I've seen numerous 3D types of demonstrations for Archetech, Mechanical and Electrical drawings using programs for that purpose. As far back as 10 or more years ago a Lighting company used a program called Cala which could and was used to show 3D reditions of homes, offices, etc. A person sitting at a desk could, on a computer, walk through a structure, add, change or remove lighting as you go, acquire all necessary footcandle readings. Similar programs have been used for making homes change in 3D as you changed them on the screen. Moving a wall would also, add, change, delete fixturess and lighting receptacles as you changed the structure.
Kind of dragging this out but showing a coin in 3D today is easy if anyone wanted to use those programs. The coin could be made to spin over to see all sides and while your watching. I remember seeing a demonstration using a car where it could turn over side to side, top to bottom, change colors, etc.
Not sure but I would think we would all have to have those programs to see this effect.

I was thinking more along the lines of the new cameras with 2 lenses that capture 3D photos and video. Then just hook that up to a 3D TV or 3D computer screen. I finally went to an electronics store and checked out the 3D TVs. I was amazed, some of the effects are in HD and stunning.

But wouldn't it be more fun to see that same coin slowing turning over?

I follow about the programs themselves creating 3D renditions. AutoCAD and 3D gaming have been around for a long time, and these are types of rendering programs. With the advent of 3D displays, these 3D objects are now projected in our vision with depth and phenomenal clarity. More specifically, live video footage and still-life photographs can be shot in 3D with amazing clarity. I think they are doing NFL and sports games in 3D, but I have not seen it.

How could these programs create 3D renditions of your coins without high resolution photographs.

Imagine CoinCommunity in the future. 3D photos, or short 3D videos utilizing 3D display technology. Not only can you view someone's type set, their coins would be much larger than life, crystal clear, and as if you could just reach out and touch it. If it were rotating, too, that would be cool.
