Went to the bank and they showed me some nickel dollars so I picked them up to look at more closely so here is my question. Has anyone ever found a 1969 Dollar with a differnt size EH under the bottom left of the canoe? Or are there more dies used in striking these?

There's a student of nickel dollars kicking around here somewhere.
In the meantime, look closely for any signs of doubling.

The first image looks like a much weaker strike than the second. Definitely not as defined. These coins were hard as heck to make well. I admit to not paying a lot of attention to nickel dollars aside from the metallurgical aspects so maybe SPP will chime in with some knowledge here.

No doubling on either coin. The EH is wider in the 1st one and yes I believe its a weaker strike but the water lines meet up to different denticles too thats why I was wondering if its a different die.

These are completely different dies- notice the extra little bump at the top denticle on the top illustration. Notice where the actual island connects with the denticle- the top illustration has it at the bottom of the denticle, where the bottom illustration has it at the top. Notice the angle that the island connects with the canoe- the top angle is about 30 degrees, while the bottom island connects at about 45 degrees. GOod eye.

staceyc777, since you posted this example in January, I have examined hundreds of 1969 dollars without finding a single example. I would like to include your 1969 dollar coin into a variety volume. Please send me a message via the forum.

Finally, after 3 years of hunting, I have found one... definitely a polished die, short waterlines, at the stern.

Hi! I pick up nickel dollars and fifty cent pieces from the bank whenever they get them and are offered. Sometimes I can get $3 each for the dollars or use them to trade for other coins.
