Hi guys I was looking at some loonies and came across a discrepancy with the official Olympic Ring design. Below is a picture of the true ring design...Below that picture is a snap shot of a 2008 and 2010 loonie. 1 - The 2010 loonie has the correct design. 2 - The 2008 loonie does NOT have the correct design.incorrect...? I don't know if that means anything, or maybe some one has the answer why the 2008 Loonie is incorrect.... Edited by wert 01/16/2012 9:01 pm

Wert, incredible eye. The overlap sequence is mirrored from one year to the other. Well done

Thanks staircase...I drive them crazy on the stamp side of the forum to...Still don't know if it was intentional or not...? I would like to see some one figure this one out for me (And every one else)... ...Because I am not knowledgeable enough to do it on my own.

It's likely just sloppy work Wert. I can't imagine they spend a whole lot of time double checking things, there doesn't seem to be much pride at the mint these days. Sorry if that sounds pessimistic, but I really do think that's how it is.

Ya, you guys are probably right, but HECK that is our Mint, and I think they are more into pushing QUANTITY out the door (to make as much money as they can)instead of QUALITY...

Definately a great find. Great eye...took me a few seconds. It was easier on the gold though.

Thats a great find! Mind you if ALL 2008 Loonies are the same its not rare. Having said that the engraving process is done by computer today so I wonder if they dragged and dropped the Rings flipped upside down onto their template? Wouldn't that be interesting. These are great questions for the RCM!

I have to do my homework on this one and must dig through my stuff. I will let you know what I find but it may take me a day or two. Thanks again for pointing this out..Don't you just love honest mistakes! They are so much better than the cooked up ones.

Very very interesting. I check the 2004 Olympic Loonie, and the ring is correct. HOWEVER, when I check the 2006 Olympic Loonie, I am NOT sure the ring is CORRECT or WRONG. Who can identify the design of 2006 Olympic Loonie?

Holy cow! We are having a field day here..we should call it the day of discovery! dodola's comments are right on the money. The 2006 Mark or logo is that of the COC or Canadian Olympic Committee. National Olympic Committees such as the USOC and the COC can be associated with coins but they are restricted to commemorating their Olympic team and not the Olympic Games themselves.
There is an error on the third ring upper right, i.e. the red ring as shown by wert, it has to pass under the green ring and not over.
So good on you dodola. If we keep this up we will have more varieties than Mexico '68 although this was not a Vancouver Games coin but rather in support of Torino '06.

The funny part is that they put the TM/MC mark on the WRONG version.

If anyone has 2008 loonie's, take a look and see if it is constant to my 2008 loonie, which has the INCORRECT configuration of the Olympic Rings and post their findings here....Even though like Olympiccoinguy says, it could be a normal mistake made on all of the 2008's.
