... or does it look like a casting? If you think it's authentic, how do you think it ended up with that, ah... surface?

The auction is ending soon... so I'm awaiting opinions. Much Appreciated! ibg

I'd stay away from it. Real (struck) gold wouldn't get so grainy.

Quick comparo...of 1910 20M obverse from Heritage, and ebay coin.
If that's possibly surface chatter, why is it absent from the rims and high points of the eagle? very fishy, imo.

Horrible fields. I would not be happy with it, even IF genuine, which I doubt.

How much does it weigh, and what do the edges look like?

I am always on the lookout for damaged gold coins... as long as they are authentic. I don't mind paying a little above spot or so to get something unusual/different.

Anyway, the point be moot because the above ebay listing went for $405.55US not including shipping. More than I would be willing to part with for that particular piece... even if authentic. The bidders list seemed to be knowledgable buyers, and a solid seller as well. I did pay heed to the advice above though... how a real piece would get such a surface is beyond me.

Anyway(again), thanks for the opines, and I 'spose I could post in CCF's "Want List"... A 10 or 20 Finland gold markkaa... Must be holed/pierced/bent/pried from soldered jewelry/a cull(?) or any combination thereof.
