After the last posts, I feel like the orphan looking into the candy store! But if I could get some help with the attribution on this very poor condition Roman and would be very grateful. I have been attributing later emperor's and have gotten better at it, but unless I know what emperor it is I might spend a long time finding what I'm looking for. So if you know who this guy is, I'll be happy to look up the reverse and attribute him. As always, thanks guys, you rock! He is 18mm. And weigh in at 1.71 grams. Thanks again!(sorry about the out of focus reverse, but was in a hurry.)

It is posthumous Claudius II Gothicus with a flaming altar reverse. I can give you the RIC number if you like or you can look it up. The obverse legend should be DIVO CLAVDIO and the reverse legend should read CONSACRATIO.

I have RIC 261 var., but I do not see any letter in ex. on this coin as I do on the others in Wildwinds. Am I correct?

Gothicus is a nickname that Claudius II received when he routed two large Goth barbarian armies on the northern frontiers.
According to Historia Augusta; "We have destroyed three hundred and twenty thousand Goths, we have sunk two thousand ships. The rivers are covered over with their shields, all the banks are buried under their swords and their spears. The fields are hidden beneath their bones."
