I'm still learning about the different types of boxes. I have a few different sources. I'll be updating this thread with box weights, wheat count, and hopefully varieties. I hope to be able to "dial" in on where the best boxes are coming from, and keep track of how the percentages are changing.I'll be using a Tanita digital scale for weight comparison.

How would the weights of the boxes help determine which box has more wheat cents in them?

Or are you also searching for copper LCMs too?

The will be some variance in the cardboard box and the paper rolls too, so that will throw off the weight a little.

You might want to weight the empty boxes to see what that variance is.

Just for fun I'd probably weigh the empty box and the empty rolls and the coins individually and as packages along with documenting the origin and branding of everything. It may end up being useless data but it could hint at some sort of trend.

Just out of curiosity, is it not advisable to cold call the companies providing you with boxes and try to get an inside hookup of sorts? I'd think any information they could give you would be helpful.

I must say I am surprised at the consistancy in the weights of the boxes. The copper percentage seem a little high as well, about 30%.

i seriously doubt that there is a "best place" to get coins from (if you are buying them from banks, credit unions, etc.) I don't think they do anything to accomplish more wheat's, or copper. they simply supply coins. now if you are referring to dealers or private sector sources, that might be a different story.

I just thought I would post my findings as I'd be keeping records for my enjoyment. I noticed different banks get supplied from different coin processing chains or armored carriers such as Brinks,Loomis, Garda etc. Most boxes are N.F.String & Son, however some are quite diferent. I have 5 or so full boxes of mint 2011's that I had picked up at some time. Even had a few that were obviously beginning to mix with the 2011s, as rolls were rainbowed with about 50-75% mint 11's. I am curious so will post my findings of diferent sources in my area.
