Hi all,
I was wondering if any of you have any idea regarding the value of a printing plate that was used by the germans to print the ten pound notes during operation bernhard.
Looks real to me, but don't have anything to compare it to.
The middle, where the date would go is cut out.

Best,

Andre

Wow, that would be pretty hard to guess. If you're planning to sell it, I would suggest that you check out the auction sites that deal with high end coins. I think that you could email them with that question, but I'm sure they'll want a picture.

Are you sure it is a Bernard plate? Any provenance or documentation to go with it? (can we be sure it is a Bernard plate and not just a plate made by some other counterfeiter.) Trying to set a price would be a little difficult since it is such a specialized item, and because there might be some question about the legality of owning it. I'd love to see pictures though.

There are some picture of Bernard plates in Operation Bernard by Bryan Burke. Good luck finding a copy though.

Oh great, there are fakes of these out there.
Any idea which auction houses would be good to ask?
I have seen articles online and images of the notes.
I'll attach an image, maybe that helps.

Thanks

I do find it interesting, but I have not had a chance to compare your plate to the ones in the Burke book yet. I will try and remember to check it out tonight.

Major non-coin auction houses might be your best venue--Sotheby's, Christie's.

After looking at the plates in the Burke book and fliping the image of your plate and comparing it to an Operation Bernard note I am fairly sure that this is not a Bernard plate.

The real killer is that all of the line weights in the fancy lettering seems to be of a consistent standard thickness. They should vary between lines and even within the same line and they do not appear to do that. The shape of the loop at the beginning of the word For is wrong.
