I'm new to collecting. When browsing ebay, I noticed a seller that seemed to sell a lot of same date rolls, which people were actually buying. For example, a roll of 1972d Jefferson nickels in circulated condition.
My understanding is that there is nothing special about that year, and it's really not worth more than face value. Why would someone pay a premium, plus shipping, for it? Are they dealers, or people putting together birthday sets or something?

Again, sorry for the stupid question, I just couldn't figure it out.

Thanks.

It makes sense to buy solid date rolls of uncirculated coins but I fail to see the reasoning for purchasing common date circulated rolls at a premium. However, some people do purchase them so I guess there is a little bit of money to be made from a seller's perspective but it is not worth the effort IMO.

Unless the roll is a 'new' roll, I think it a waste of time to buy a roll of same date years that have already been checked for varieties and errors and simply re-rolled together.

Thanks for the replies.

I understand buying uncirc rolls, but who is the buyer for circ rolls? I guess that's the part that I don't get.
