Hi Forum.
Ive had this Medal for years and have been unable to firmly ID it. Its 72mm diameter.
I have roughly translated some of the inscription but have not any idea what was struck for?

Well, I dont know much about this medal too, but I think that the single eye is one of the symbols of the Free Masons.

The design on one side depits a walled City with Fortifications. But no hint as to where or why...

I don't have any info to add other than it is a beautiful medal. Is there any lettering around the edge?

It looks to be a religious medal of sorts.

lacking time for research at the moment, but I believe the medal may have been made to commemorate one of Constantine the Greats military victories.

I think it may be related to his 'vision' of God back in I believe 312AD, and his subsequent military victory afterwards.

regards,

-Kurt

EDIT: Or, possibly the medal was to acknowledge Constantine as the one who brought Christianity to the empire

No there's no lettering around the edge.
Interesting about the 'Vision of God'. So what period is it likely to have been struck?

Well, I found an old obscure article related to this medal called the "gentleman's magazine" written in 1789 so it is safe to assume that it was struck before 1789. Still looking for something definitive until the experts come to the rescue.....

Update!

Looks like the medal was struck to commemorate the 'debate' relating to the reformation. I found an article in Polish that describes the medal and the particulars about its commemoration. You can use any free translator and get an idea of what is being stated.

Regards,

-Kurt

And I forgot to say as well, this medal is just gorgeous. The design and the condition for its age is really fantastic!
