Risk is a huge part of buying off of ebay unless you're familiar with the seller. I always wonder if the rumour of friends of the seller driving prices up for legitimate bidders is true. I've bid against the same bidders on a couple of different auctions from the same person. Related pieces, but still. Makes me scratch my head and say hmmmm. They'd stop bidding about 1.00 under my highest bid.

@ secoinedchance. How would a sellers friend know what your highest bid is? If a sellers friend is bidding to drive up the price, they run the risk of outbidding you.

There is software for everything now. Not saying that this is true, but I have heard rumours.
Rest in Peace

You're talking about shill bidding, which has been a problem on ebay from the beginning.

ebay now conceals bidder info, even at the end, because too many people were notifying them of the scam. For example, if you looked at a seller's varied stuff, you'd see a couple bidders who bid on virtually everything he offered, rarely win, and rarely bid on any other seller's stuff.

If the shill wins, the seller is out the FVF, but he can give a second chance to the "real" high bidder, at his high bid, rather than what he would have paid if there were no shill bids.

shill bid until you hit the other seller's cap then withdraw your last bid.
congrats, you've now maxed out the previous bidder!

ebay gets paid more the higher the item sells. why would they want to shut it (shill) down?

back on topic, nice coin!
