Can anyone tell me the scoop on this? It has the RCM logo on the back.

Yes it is round. I bought it the other day, and was just curious if anyone knew the histiry. I thought maybe it was issued with the annual report or something (if they do that?).

I think it's a mint token issued by the RCM for visitors to purchase. I knew they were out there, I didn't know they were round though.

As coincollect says, they are not circulation coins.

I found one that was sold on ebay in April for about $10 out of Winipeg. I've attached the seller's picture and description:

2011 RCM TOKEN: THE LOON

This is the offer of a beautiful 2011 RCM token: The Loon. This token bears the design of the Loon dollar, yet the colour is that of NBS(nickel bonded steel) and that is interesting in itself.

That nickel looks like what we call a flash plate, if it was nickel bonded steel it would be the same type of bonding done on US quarters but with a steel core instead of nickel.

Basically bonded means a sandwich of metal, this looks plated in casual observation.

If you can see three layers at the rim, you know it's bonded, if you can't it's plated.

Yes, this is a visitor token from either the Winnipeg or Ottawa mint. In the boutique area of the mint is a glass Encased Coin press. You insert $3 and this token gets minted before your eyes. There has been a different design on the reverse every year since they started issuing them in 2004.

I got a 2007 Beaver today at the bank. Picture to follow, but I will say mine's had a rough life. Overall the coin looks good, but lots of contact marks.
