A 1960 Jefferson I just found in a roll. What is going on here?

Looks like it was "struck through" a piece of copper which was retained except for the top(part was rolled over).

the struck through copper was my hunch. I feel that I could pull it off the coin myself (it folded over on the top right), but I obviously don't want to go there. Coin is in good shape for a 1960. I'm thinking it's worth $20 if a real retained struck through?

I'm not sure if its struck through or lamination? You guys are of the struck through consensus?

can it be a lamination if the delaminated piece is copper?

Is it rusty? If so it might be steel.

If it is copper, it may be debris in the striking chamber.

I think it is just a lamination issue/peel.
You can clearly see the image of the normal reverse right through it. Also the underside of that upper peeled area
is not copper looking.

Doesn't a lamination have to be part of the original planchet? If the copper colored piece was struck onto the coin, and then partially flaked off, it would be a struck through fragment (if it came completely off) or a retained struck through fragment (if it was still stuck in the coin) - but not a lamination.

Right?

.

Here is a photo of a lamination peel and folded over.Note that the "R" is still present on the vacated area as well as on the peeled portion (in reverse).

I do not know if this is typical or not.

Not unexpected,it's a thin piece of copper.
