I just wanted to get some expert opinions on this coin.
It was given to me by a friend of mine and I've done a bunch of research but I'm still unsure.
Could you guys please tell me what you think.
Thanks!
Farrah

Looks correct but somewhat suspicious. Have you checked it with a magent and can you maybe weigh it or measure the widtch of it? I'm sure there are some experts who can tell but I'm just not entirely sure. It almost looks too good, especially with the shield on the eagle. It almost looks like it says copy but its hard to tell with those pictures.

Farrah . . I too am not an expert but here is an 1861-O that I borrowed from the Heritage site. http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...8&lotNo=7649 Note the position of the star to the farthest left. Also note the differences in Miss Liberty and the numbers in the date, especially the 6. With a mintage of under 18K I would have no idea of how many dies were used but I cant imagine they would be this different. I also will wait for the experts but you have come to the right place to get answers.

edited to add: just saw your new pics and yours doesn't have a reeded edge as it should

Undoubtedly either a counterfeit or a copy. As jeffrose said, the reeded edges are off and these hardly ever come with the deep mirror proof look. It almost looks like I can see the word "copy" beneath the head of the eagle, but I'm not sure. If the word "copy" is there, then at least it is legal to own as it's not technically a counterfeit. :-) Anyways, that area would have a bunch of parallel lines if genuine. Welcome to the forums!

Sorry but there is zero chance that it is a genuine Double Eagle. It has a proof finish(polished fields with contrasting devices) which is not correct at all, the beading around the rim is wrong, and of course missing the reeding is also a big sign. The divot in the middle of the shield was almost certainly the location of a COPY stamp but it has been removed which appears to have exposed copper at the center of the token.
