Just curious if anyone had any thoughts on collecting 1oz World Silver coins over 1oz US Silver or a mixture of both. Over the past couple of months I have development this increasing interest in collecting 1oz World silver coins. However, I have been hestitate to invest in any due to worries that World Silver coins would not have as big of a following in the coin collecting world and that they might not hold their value as well as the more popular Silver Eagle. Any thoughts, and thanks in advance!

First, welcome to the site. Second, it depends on what you want the coins for. If you want them to sell easily in the future I would stick with the Silver Eagle here in the US since they are so popular here and more easily recognized.
I wouldn't worry about OZs of silver from other countries losing their value faster than a silver eagle since the value of both is tied closely with the spot price of silver.
Otherwise, in my opinion, you are the one that will be looking at them so if you are buying for collectors sake I would get what interests you.

jcd390 and by my estimation I would say that is a good plan.... 1.ASE 2.Canada maple 3.Austria Phil Harmonic 4.Mexico Libertad 5.UK Britannia 6.Australia koala an many more 7.China Panda So it gets real addictive real quick, and I see nothing but good things coming from collecting one or multiple examples of all the fore mentioned, via different years, and designs. Basically the addition possibilities become endless, and that is fine with me as each new addition obviously increases the overall value of the silver collection.... Some may say well some are bullion an others are coins, but I could care less as I like the beauty, silver content, and world following/popularity of all the coins/bullion in that list. And I am sure others can list some other great examples....

And for that fact they also get faked more then any of the above mentioned, so be most weary of Panda silver coins....

my experience in the US is that ASE's sell for more over spot than the other 1 ounce Silver coins (not including the Britannia, they seem to sell for a premium also here). I have often wondered why since they all are the exact same weight of the exact same purity. If I were just trying to amass a large hoard of silver I would probably start with something other than ASE's because they are a few dollars cheaper, doesn't seem like much but if you buy 1000 of them that's a couple thousand dollars cheaper. Of course this is if I was planning on keeping it for quite some time or until the price reached a certain amount before I sold it because chances are if you can buy it cheaper than ASE's, you will have to sell it cheaper than ASE's also

Thanks everyone, I think since I am intrigued with the art and history behind coins, I might start to invest in some world silver. I just wanted to make sure that if I ever had to sell it would not be to difficult. Well with that being said, I just placed my order for: 1. Canada Maple 2. Canada Wildlife series 3. Austria Phil Harmonic 4. Mexico Libertad 5. Australia koala 7. China Panda 8. New Zealand Hawksbill Turtle 9. And my favorite, 2011 Australia Kangaroo at Sunset

It would not be difficult to sell at all. From Canada, the 1oz silver coins that sell for the closest to spot are the Philharmoniker, Maple, and ASE (in increaseing premiums). It seems you have already an enviable list going, though you might be interested in including some more: 10. Australian Kookaburra and standard Kangaroo (though I agree the sunset kangaroos are beautiful!) 11. Somalian Elephant (beautiful series from a German Mint) 12. British Britannia 13. New Zealand Fern (the taku is technically from/ for Fiji) 14. Cook Island Bounty (minted by NZ mint again I think) 15. Mongolian Ural Owl (if budget allows)

poboxw, I saw the Mongolian Ural Owl just the other day and let me tell you...that is an amazing piece of work. I do plan on purchasing one in the near future, they are just hard to come by! Thanks for the help and great suggestions!
