Just thought I'd put up a full, large picture of the coin I have as my avatar. I got the coin back in late November. These were the sellers pics; main reason why I won't put up mine of my own is because they won't be anywhere good as these (plus the plastic flip that the coin is in is a real tight fit and I don't want to wrestle it to get the coin out to photograph it - the coin hasn't shifted AT ALL in the flip since I got it, that's how tight it is). Can you tell me how you put your own coin on the avatar section of the forum? They have a number of generic avatars to use, but I see everyone has their own coin. I still haven't got the coin I want to put on, but once I do it would be nice to know how to do it. BTW....Nice avatar! Thanks.

Thanks oxos! For your own avatar, check out this link. Either post directly on there with the picture of the coin you want, or click on Susan's profile and PM your coin to her directly. She will make the avatar for your own use.

You have to contact Susan or whatever her name is and ask her to update your profile. Otherwise, there are only the modern ones to choose from. So far, I haven't figured out what coin I want to use as an avatar.
That's a nice coin. I can see a heavy AE2 might be a tight fit. You might want to switch it to a flip that has a bit more clearance. That way you can take it out once in awhile.

Thanks gil-galad. I've been tempted to actually, but I don't really feel a need to take this particular coin out, since the plastic is super clear and offers a great view already (it's not faded or anything). And the bright side of having a tight flip: the coin (by not moving) doesn't scratch up the inside of it. Your welcome oxos!

That's a distinctive coin! One of these days, I should get myself an avatar.

I switched to envelopes to keep my coins in, that way I can take them out whenever I want to hold, photo, or just show friends. I cant believe I waisted all that money in the past to send in US coins to TPG's it really took the fun out of coins not being able to hold them. I will never again send in a coin to get graded, well unless its a key date and I want to sell it but this past year I've found it hard to sell a quality coin. Always miss it when I do and feel I have to replace it which usually costs more then I paid for the coin in the first place. I used to always wonder why people where against slabbing coins so they could hold them now I am beginning to see why. BTW Nice coin JangoFett

I'm also not convinced that slabbing a coin is a good idea for the future. What would happen to that plastic in 500, 1000, or even 2000 years from now. If the plastic melted and bonded to the surface of the coin, you'd play heck trying to free the coin.

Thanks guys for your comments! jessvc1: I only have one slabbed coin, and that one was given to me as a gift. I don't really have any coin worthy of slabbing, and, with regards to US coins, most likely won't in the future, since I hardly collect US anymore (my last US coin purchase was just a couple of park quarters for my folder, and that was a little over a month ago!). Slabbing's just been one of those things I've never really needed, and I knew that so I hardly thought about it.

Quote: What would happen to that plastic in 500, 1000, or even 2000 years from now. I never thought about that for some reason, but you have a good point there gil-galad. Maybe continuously re-slabbing the coins over the centuries would work? idk just an idea. Probably impratical though...
