I've never put much faith in the grading services. I think they are valuable for ensuring that a coin is authentic, but beyond that, I expect to make my own judgement on a coin's grade, and to have the coin be near that grade when I sell it. Also, you have to like the coin you are buying, or have a reason for buying a problem coin (hole-filler perhaps).
I do have a collection of modern commems, all MS-69s, in plastic. I bought them because I really wanted to see if their grades would hold up over time. I made sure not to pay too much for any of them.
